Q:
Will this work on my make of car/engine?
A: Most likely.
Some engines will be easier to adapt than others.
Q:
What other components will I need?
A:
Depends on the
application. Some cars can be adapted with little or no extra
components. Others will require substantially more parts.
For example, a German car using an early Bosch EFI system
requires one extra temperature sensor, and a replacement throttle
sensor. A car that normally runs on a carburettor, could be a challenge.
Q:
Can you tell me what I need to get this working on
my car/engine?
A: Probably not
unless I have done the same conversion. Read the Megasquirt
manuals & forums. By
far the best thing to do, is find a forum of others that have already
done the conversion for your engine model. It helps to
know what components you can successfully reuse, and what
new/replacement parts you need. It's also worth getting a copy
of someone elses settings to get you started too.
Q:
Do I need a O2 wideband sensor?
A: No, but it
helps.
Megasquirt can tune itself which simplifies the setting up
process. You can always sell, or reuse the sensor on another
car.
Q: What benefit to you
get from MS2?
A: MS2 has a faster processor, higher resolution, and it's
where all the development is happening right now. However, MS1 does
most things that people want. You can always upgrade the processor
later.
